He is the captain now.
We have a NEW Number One team in the Power Rankings and his name is Captain Morgan! Scott’s team has managed to put up the top score in the league for two weeks in a row and when you look at his team it makes sense. CMC, James Cook, Puka, JSM, Egbuka. Scott has somehow managed to gather the Avengers under all of our noses! Who let him do this!?!?!? Can Nathan stop him this week?
Scott isn’t the only 3-0 team, though. Everyone’s favorite Cat in the Hat (you’re wearing a hat right now, Chris. Don’t lie) is also 3-0 and he’s averaging over 150 points a week! He plays Adam this week which is basically a free win!
Speaking of Adam, him and myself are the only two teams in the league 0-3. We’re both feeling pretty grateful that we don’t have a league punishment this year because our teams are BAD! Nathan’s team isn’t too far ahead of us, averaging 94 points a game. It might be an entertaining race to the bottom this year, friends. (Calm down, Corey. That’s not what I meant)
Finally, a change of pace before I go today. Instead of using the last paragraph of this column to speak about things going on or to present a new thought, I’m gonna use it for a purely selfish reason. To talk about one of my favorite TV shows that happens to make it’s return this week.
I am of course talking about Slow Horses on Apple TV.
If you’ve never heard of it, I get it. Apple is absolutely the WORST at marketing it’s shows. It’s insane how much good stuff is on that app that no one ever hears about because Apple refuses to talk about anything other than Ted Lasso and the Morning Show. I probably never would have heard of this show if not for Kyle.
Slow Horses rocks. It’s about a division of MI5 where the most incompetent spies are stationed who are bad at their jobs but not so bad that MI5 can fire them. A Fool Town of spies, if you will. They’re led by Gary Oldman having the most fun imaginable playing the most cantankerous curmudgeon this side of Grumpy Cat. He should win an Emmy every year for his work in this show. It’s brilliant.
Every season they somehow get pulled into something they shouldn’t be in and every season they somehow end up saving the day through a combination of Oldman’s character pulling strings and the team combining to be greater than the sum of their own parts. It’s funny, irreverent, and has enough heart to make me tear up a time or two watching it. The show also isn’t afraid to shake up it’s cast by killing off characters. Being a spy is dangerous work if you’re GOOD at it. These people are not and there are consequences to that.
One of my favorite things about the show is that they somehow manage to get a new season out EVERY YEAR. In 2025 it’s not uncommon to have to wait 3-5 years between seasons of ‘prestige’ shows. (Looking at YOU Stranger Things and House of the Dragon). But every 8 – 12 months there’s a new season of Slow Horses. They’re working on the next season before this new one is even out!
If you’re looking for something to watch, give Slow Horses a shot. You’ll know within the first few episodes if it’s your kinda thing.
And now, the Power Rankings.
