Week Thirteen Power Rankings: Almost Game Time

The Playoffs are almost here. There is but one week left in the 2023 Fantasy Football regular season and there is a LOT to play for. Let’s jump right into it.

The #1 and #2 Seeds are going to Chris and myself. We’ve been far and away the class of the league this year and we’re the only two teams who have and will reach double digit wins this year. The only question is, who will get #1 and who will get #2? In a crazy twist of fate, we play each other for the first time this upcoming week. The winner of that game will get the #1 Seed and the loser will get #2. It’s as simple as that. Either way, Chris and I don’t have to worry about week 15.

Seeds #3 and #4 will go to the other two division winners. Joey has clinched the Suck it Bryant division and also the #3 Seed. At eight wins, the only other potential division winner that could catch him is Corey, and Joey owns the tiebreak over Corey.

The #4 seed is still up for grabs as the You’d Cream Division hasn’t been clinched yet. Both Corey and Adam can still win this division, although the odds are GREATLY in Corey’s favor. If Adam wins and Corey loses, they’ll both be tied at 7-7. They split their head to head matchups this year, so it’ll come down to points scored. Corey has a 121 point lead in total points scored on Adam. So, Adam would have to win, Corey would have to lose, and Adam would have to score 121 points more than Corey this week. That’s gonna be a tough order. Either way, one of these two will join Joey as the final division winner and the #4 Seed. Have fun in week 15, suckers.

Finally, let’s talk Wildcard. As always in this league, it’s a bloodbath. There are FIVE teams in contention of TWO Wildcard spots. One of those five teams will win the You’d Cream Division (Corey or Adam), so that really brings the math down to FOUR. Two will make the playoffs, two will fail to reach the post season. Along with Corey and Adam, there’s Austin and Justin and Nathan. If Austin wins this week, he’s PROBABLY in at 8-6. He controls his destiny. If Justin wins this week, there’s a high likelihood he’s in at 7-7 because he holds tie breaks over Nathan, Adam and Austin.

After that it’s CHAOS. Nathan has a shot if he wins and the right people lose. Adam has a shot even if he doesn’t win depending on who else loses. Austin could still miss out if he loses and the wrong people win. In fact, depending on who wins this week, it might be simple or it might be very complex to figure out the Wildcard Spots. As always, wait for my official word next Tuesday before assuming you got in or not.

In every case however, a win this week GREATLY increases your chance of getting in. That means that five out of six games this week have meaning and value.

It’s pretty rare in Fantasy Football that the last week of the year has a ton of important matchups. In many leagues, the last couple weeks of the year become stale and lame because there aren’t a ton of games that matter anymore. But, in this league, unless your name is Scott or Joey, your game matters this week. That’s special and speaks to the competitive nature in our league.

So play this last week well. Because this time next week, this thing will be wrapping up. And we’ll miss these days in a month when Fantasy Football has gone to sleep for the New Year.
