#6 has finally become #1.
What more can be said about our new Champ, Justin Brostek! The purveyor of trades and wacky inflatable waving men finally ascended to the Fool Throne and has become our champion.
The Wreckfast Club started the year as the 4th ranked team before plummeting to 11th after week 1 and spending most of the season in-between 7th and 5th. His team peaked during the regular season in week 10 claiming the #1 spot but no one in the league would have called them a true ‘contender’ at that time. We were preoccupied with other teams like Joey’s, Corey’s, and Adam’s.
Despite that, Justin’s team didn’t just make the playoffs by winning the East division, he secured the #2 overall seed and a first round bye. A first round bye in no way guarantees a team’s playoff success (I have had a first round bye multiple times), but Justin was able to use it to have a chill week 15 before his second round matchup.
In the second round, Justin faced the previous Champ and rider of the lightning Kory Hale. Kory’s team had been good if not great most of the year and he managed to fend off Joey in the first week (although that may have had something to do with Joey making maybe the worst line up decision of this leagues playoff history). Despite zero points from Marquise Goodwin (who I didn’t even realize was still in the league), Justin was able to defeat Kory on the backs of James Conner and Daniel Jones. You read that right, Daniel Jones.
All roads would lead Justin to a championship show down with another unlikely contender, Adam. Our first ever Champ had managed to put up an 8-5 record despite keeping Aaron Rodgers is this years draft. The opening projection had this game very close, 106.48 to 106.14. Daniel Jones doesn’t care about your projections, however. Jones put up 36.18 points and him, along with Dalton Schultz, carried Justin to an overwhelming victory against the team named after our Booger Sugar King, Koukain Flain. Adam’s last hope lay with Devin Singletary who never got to finish his game due to the very serious injury of Damar Hamlin. It was a cruel way to lose a Fantasy Championship, but sometimes that’s how it goes. Singletary would have needed up put up 30ish points anyway, a tall task for sure.
And, thus the era of the Wrekfast Club begins. This is Justin’s first Championship win and he will be the first recipient of the Troph Deez 2 (whenever that comes back in stock). Congrats, Justin. We honor you!
